January 20th-25th Pay It Forward Week

Pay it Forward Week
Veterans DayOn Monday January 20thThe Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 20, 2020, marks the 25th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. secondary Hoonah students will participate in a day of service to our school and community. Activities will take place on the second half of the day. We will have an early release bell schedule.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. birthday celebrations and the spirit of service, the Hoonah City School District has established “Pay It Forward” week from Jan. 20-25, 2020. Students, staff and families are invited to participate in a pro-kindness week by doing good deeds for others that will enhance our community. The receiver of the good deed is encouraged to “pay it forward” to someone else, creating a chain reaction of good acts and feelings. It is a great opportunity to help our students understand the power of empathy and their own ability to make a difference in others’ lives.
