2020-2021 Elective Phase Selection

Elective Phases

As part of the Hoonah city School District’s graduation policy, students are required to earn 10 elective credits. To help students meet those requirements we are pleased to offer another year of the Elective Phase Schedule. This schedule allows your student to take courses that align with their passion or career plan. Students spend 4 weeks focused on their core subjects. At the conclusion of the 4th week students spend the next 2 weeks in focused, self-selected elective courses. These courses are extended time courses so students have the opportunity to explore these courses in depth. This year school will begin with an elective phase.

 What is an elective?

High School electives are typically course’s that fall outside of the main core academic subject areas (English, math, history, and science). These courses are not required, but a student chooses to take them. Electives may reflect a student’s interests, introduce or improve skills, or be directly related to a future career. Electives do not require as much time or work as a core course, but should include educational content. Electives Count.

Because electives are part of your student’s academic record, treat them like any other high school course.

The selection form will be made available once all courses are confirmed
